  • in 1898 they were one of only 4 college teams playing hockey according to the book “ Skates, Sticks and men “ by S. Kip Farrington.  Only  four schools, everyone else was playing ice polo. What’s more they won a tournament put on by the Skating Club of NY. You could even go so far as to declare them the first National Champion. The NCAA would not crown a National Champion until 1948.
  • Pictured is a Brown yearbook from 1898 which has a photo from the first National Champion. (Cover, Team Roster and Season Record, and Team Photo) How awesome is that pic!!!
  • Another part of this historical compilation is a 1959 8 X10 photo of Wyndham Early wearing the same style jersey.
  • Winter Sports Media Guide from the 64 – 65 Season
  • Media Guide from the 76 – 77 Season
  • Take a close look at the a 6 x9 photo of goalie Don Whiston. He got hit in the mouth, lost some teeth and then wore the mask for the next two years from January 1949 until he graduated.  The backside of the photo is also quite an interesting read.  Those of us who have made a study of the evolution of the goalie mask can appreciate the early face protective devices that formed the beginning of the evolution of the protective face mask.
  • Brown Postcard from early days
  • Brown University Hat
